5 out of 5 stars More than just a door frame ornament.   August 17, 2009

The adverts looked naff and when my dad bought one I laughed and said that "someone had to fall for it!" But - it's actually very good! It's certainly sturdy and is fitted within seconds to a door frame. Initially I was dubious as to whether it would take my weight and did a fair bit of yanking to test it out, but it stayed in place.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best and this is a great example of this. I've used this a fair few times now and it's a fantastic solution for those who want to do some physical training but don't have the space for equipment or a large budget. It enables you to perform several exercises all using the one item. It can be left on the doorframe, and although you won't be able to close the door - it's a gentle reminder that the equipment is there to be used and you do a few pull-ups every time you walk though.

It's not just for doorframes either, it can be placed on the floor and used for all manner of other excersises too such as press-ups and sit ups.

In a nutshell: JML are famed for producing low quality, low price products. But it seems that they have finally come up with something which is well made and functions perfectly. I reckon plenty of these will be unwrapped on Christmas morning, and unlike many other fab fitness crazes (remember `Thighmaster'?) - I think that this will get used.

This is the same iron gym as advertised on JML only cheaper!! I was a bit worried about it damaging the door frame but it transfers the weight so you are not pulling down on the door frame but pushing against it. Feels very sturdy with my full weight on it (12 stone). Good variety of grip positions. Can be used for press ups and sit ups as well, although the tricep dips are a bit of a waste of time as you get very little movement length.

5 out of 5 stars good supplement to fitness   October 14, 2009

I am a female of 8 and a half stone and don't want bulging biceps; I just want some strength in my upper body. I go running several times a week which is great for the lower body, but obviously not so helpful for the upper. I never was a gym bunny, so this item seemed ideal to me.

When it arrived I was initially put off by said bulging-bicep model on the box and instruction leaflet, however, the Iron Gym is very easy to put together and fits easily over the door. The only minus was that I couldn't fit the safety wedge over my door frames as there is nowhere for the metal to slide behind the frame. This wasn't a problem though, as it remains firmly on the door without the wedge.

As another reviewer mentioned, I find it better to just leave it on the door frame as I can just have a few pull-ups when I go through, without it being an actual 'session'. Only thing with leaving it up is that my husband #6ft 2in# has to duck every time he goes under!

I am enjoying using the Iron Gym and it is really helping to build strength in my shoulders and arms - and firm up those bingo wings! Great product, and good value.

Purchased this as I wanted a bar that wouldn't damage the door frame and so far it has performed admirably; with not a single scratch or mark on the frame after a few weeks of regular use. I like the fact that it's much quicker to set up and take down than a screw-in bar and has a few extra grip options.

It does flex a bit as you put your weight on it, which is a little unnerving the first couple of times, but has been supporting my weight (~90kg) without any problems.

5 out of 5 stars Very sturdy   November 5, 2009

Comes with basic instructions to assemble, but still easy to follow, in the combined instruction and workout booklet. Some spare nuts and bolts, which is no doubt a good idea as long as you keep them safe. The unit is very sturdy and supports my weight (100kgs) well. One thing to think about is do you have you a doorway in which this will fit as the bar extends slightly beyond the door surround (93.5cm long) so you need a doorway with a bit of space each side. As you hang beneath a 6'6" door way you need to bend your knees to keep them off the floor, however this makes it easy to give a little boost when you get to the end of a set at exhaustion. This is the only bit of equipment you need when following a body weight exercise regime of press ups, squats/lunges, sit ups, burpees and of course chins. With the included tools you can also disassemble and pack it in your luggage to take on holiday to avoid the resort's gym fees. Bear in mind however that it weighs just under 2kgs for your miserly baggage allowance! All in all a good buy.
